Designed with care
Behind the devices, sensors, and gadgets in the Hearo Ecosystem is our team of makers, technologists, and, well… magicians. You know that person you grew up with who was always taking something apart to see how it works? Those are the folks of Hearo Labs.
When an off-the-shelf component isn’t up to our standards or is missing something,
Hearo Labs engineers the solutions that best suit the individuals using our systems.

Made in the Lab
When the thing someone needs doesn’t exist, or stops existing, we build it. A few of the things on our bench so far.
-
Sound Sensor
Built with
- The problem
- A loud room tends to escalate: the TV turned all the way up, voices getting louder. Staff usually hear about it after the fact.
- What we built
- A sensor that reads decibels in stages, not just loud or quiet, and notices when loud has gone on too long.
- What changes
- The home responds first, with a light cue or a reminder in the room. Staff only get called if it keeps going.
-
Hearo Radar
- The problem
- Mats under a mattress or a cushion do the job, but some people would rather have nothing to lie on, sit on or wear.
- What we built
- mmWave radar that talks Z-Wave, plus our own tool for tuning it to each bed and chair.
- What changes
- Staff know someone’s in bed or up and about, with nothing to lie on or wear. Heart rate and fall detection are next.
-
Minferno
- The problem
- A burner left on is one of the real risks of living on your own, and taking the stove away takes away independence.
- What we built
- A sensor that reads the stovetop surface and the oven temperature separately.
- What changes
- Staff know when the stove or oven is on and for how long, and the person keeps cooking.
-
Hearo Lamp
- The problem
- During COVID the color smart bulbs we relied on started disappearing from the market.
- What we built
- A full-color lamp on our own board, in a puck that sits anywhere.
- What changes
- Light keeps working as a cue: a reminder, a visual doorbell, a path to the bathroom at night.
-
Light Strip
- The problem
- One lamp lights a spot, but some cues need a whole path, a doorway or a wall.
- What we built
- A controller that drives RGB strip lights with the same smarts as the lamp.
- What changes
- Hallways, soffits and walls can glow the way to the bathroom, or light up when the doorbell rings.
-
Adapter
- The problem
- Telehealth Sensors makes bed mats, chair mats and emergency buttons people already rely on, and we wanted them working alongside everything else in a Hearo home.
- What we built
- An adapter for their control box that connects any sensor plugged into it to Z-Wave.
- What changes
- People keep the Telehealth Sensors equipment they know, and it works hand in hand with the rest of their home.
-
Hearo Safe
Built with
- The problem
- Valuables need to stay locked away, but whoever holds the key isn’t always there when they’re needed.
- What we built
- Our board inside a biometric safe, with a Z-Wave lock and unlock.
- What changes
- Staff can unlock it remotely when it’s time, and see every time it’s opened.
