Our Goal
We build hearo.net to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we check new pages against them before they go live.
What’s Built In
You shouldn’t have to change anything to use this site, but you can.
- Every page is built from plain, meaningful HTML, so screen readers, keyboards and voice control can find the headings, links and controls.
- The site follows your device’s settings for reduced motion and higher contrast.
- Text grows with your browser’s font size setting and with zoom.
- Accessibility options, in the menu and at the bottom of every page, can read the page aloud and highlight each passage as it goes. They also let you make text larger, raise the contrast, keep the page still, switch to an easy-read typeface, underline links, add space between lines and turn on a reading guide. Your choices stay on this device.
- Keyboard users can reach those options, or skip straight past the header, from the first thing on every page.
No Overlay
Those options are our own, built into the site. We don’t use a third-party accessibility overlay. Overlays often get in the way of the screen readers and other tools people already rely on, and they can’t fix a page that wasn’t built well in the first place.
Known Gaps
Some of our videos don’t have captions yet. We’re adding them, and we’ll send a transcript of any video on request.
Tell Us What’s Not Working
If something on this site is hard to use, we want to hear about it. Call (417) 404-1548 or email hello@hearo.net and tell us the page and what happened. We’ll get you the information another way while we fix it.
