Why It Matters

Every part of the support system is under strain. That strain is amplified in rural and underserved regions, and assistive technology extends the reach of limited staff while enabling independence and safety where traditional coverage cannot scale.

Missouri was one of the first Technology First states, and Hearo was built here alongside those leaders. Together we defined how smart home devices, connected sensors, IoT, and data services can operate as one system. Missouri's Remote Supports rate averages about $8 per hour, compared to $50+ for traditional in-person staffing. At the individual level that is an 80% cost reduction. At the system level, the math transforms entirely.

What We're Proposing

For seven years we have partnered with Missouri DMH to expand the Hearo Remote Supports platform. The documented savings, workforce efficiencies, and independence gains for older adults and people with developmental disabilities all stay in Missouri. We built this model with the state and have never stopped refining it together.

Remote Supports is already operating in Missouri through agencies that run on Hearo, yet utilization represents only a fraction of the people who could benefit. Providers ask us to operate dedicated support hubs because they trust the technology but struggle to staff their own operations at scale.

Rural Health Transformation funding lets us launch Hearo Support Hubs across Missouri, creating regional operations that coordinate assessments, installations, training, and remote support services using our proven statewide network.

Each person's setup is customized. Some rely on passive overnight safety coverage; others use scheduled check-ins, smart alerts, or environmental sensors. Hearo's team manages everything end to end: interest, onboarding, configuration, family partnership, support, maintenance, and ongoing service. The platform itself stays open to any provider agency that wants to operate its own monitoring center; this investment simply adds statewide capacity led by the team that already knows how to deliver it at scale.

We have shared this vision with state partners from the beginning, and we are ready to deploy it now-delivering measurable efficiencies, rapid risk mitigation, and trusted coverage for residents who want to remain at home.

Impact per $25 Million

If Missouri dedicates $25 million, just 2.5% of the state's $1 billion Rural Health Transformation award, to Hearo, it can reach roughly 4,000 to 5,000 individuals statewide with technology-enabled supports.

Delivering that same coverage through traditional one-to-one staffing would exceed $300 million annually in ongoing costs. That is a twelve-to-one return in avoided spend, year after year, while freeing staff to focus on in-person care that truly requires it.

One dollar invested in Hearo's infrastructure stretches like twelve. It is a scalable way to modernize support delivery without sacrificing quality or safety.

How We Fit

Hearo satisfies at least three Rural Health Transformation strategies on its own, including technology-enabled care, data interoperability, and workforce modernization, and gives Missouri credible claims on five. Because we are a Missouri-grown team, the investment stays local while proven playbooks extend statewide with minimal risk. Every improvement to the Hearo infrastructure is shared immediately with partner agencies, so the statewide ecosystem benefits alongside our own operations.

We can integrate with an existing application as the remote supports layer or anchor a full proposal. Assistive Technology, analytics, and remote staffing come together on one platform, producing the efficiency gains, budget relief, and assurance families need to keep loved ones aging in place.

Until now we have stayed focused on building technology that works, leaving statewide operations to partners. With Rural Health Transformation resources, Hearo will operate dedicated support hubs while continuing to power other agencies through the same utility, meeting any technical or operational demand the program introduces.

About Hearo

Savings Snapshot

Model Approx. Annual Cost (10 people, overnight 8 hrs)
Traditional 1:1 staffing $1.46M
Hearo supports $0.24M
Savings ≈ $1.22M (>80%)

At statewide scale, a $25M Hearo investment achieves the reach of more than $300M in traditional coverage.

Why This Fits the RHT Program

The Hearo approach aligns directly with Rural Health Transformation priorities: sustainable access, workforce modernization, innovative technology, and prevention. Because the system is already live in Missouri, the state can demonstrate measurable outcomes early without pilot lag or startup risk.

A $25 million investment gives Missouri a statewide assistive-technology backbone that expands access, reduces recurring costs, and supports thousands of rural residents for a fraction of traditional spending. It is practical transformation, ready to deploy now.
